Limiting wildlife damage on crops with the WildTrac solution

A solution developed with farmers and hunters

Since 2021, AgriProTech has been offering a new tool to keep large game away from crops. Roe deer, hinds and wild boars can cause significant damage to cultivated plots. Fences are erected at the edges of plots but these protective solutions often need to be supplemented by other methods.

On the strength of customer feedback on its AviTrac® bird repeller devices, which are widely used to keep birds away from seedlings, AgriProTech had the resources needed to develop this new WildTrac® solution. The company contacted hunters and others who regularly suffered damage from wildlife.

Field trials were carried out, prototypes adapted and a specific library was created to effectively deter these new species.

A new way to prevent damage

The WildTrac® acoustic repeller provides a new solution for farmers whose crops are damaged by these animals. The aim is to give the illusion that the cultivated area is not safe for wild animals, by emitting signals that will seem are unfamiliar to them.

Sounds simulating human activity or agricultural machinery, hunting or hunting-related noises are just some of the signals available to keep animals away from crops.

3 trigger modes to suit the targeted species

WildTrac® can be triggered at set times or by a presence detection sensor (12 m range on each side of the unit). The transmitter is waterproof and its volume can be programmed. Three operating modes are available:

  1. Noisemaker mode to simulate human activity (90-second signals, programmable at short intervals)
  2. Detector mode: 15-second signals triggered by passing animals (infrared detectors)
  3. Classic repeller mode with specific signals to scare away game (approx. 60 sec-signals) or birds (approx. 90 sec-signals)

Users recommend hiding it under camouflage netting to make it less visible, especially on clear nights. Animals will then approach it more easily and enter its field of detection.

In most cases, the animal that triggers the sound emission turns back in surprise.

Multiple species to deter: a versatile solution

As explained above, the WildTrac® repeller will deter wild boar, deer and roe deer away. But it can also be used in spring to protect seedlings or in winter to keep birds away from buildings. In fact, the WildTrac® library contains almost 600 signals to keep crows, starlings, wood pigeons and seabirds away.
